Eight missing as boat capsizes in Orissa
May 8th, 2011 - 7:53 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, May 8 (IANS) At least eight people, including five women and two children, are missing after a boat capsized Sunday in a reservoir in Orissa’s Koraput district, police said.
The accident took place in Kolab reservoir, 560 km from state capital Bhubaneswar. The boat was carrying 12 people.
The people were on their way from Pujariput village across the reservoir to attend a function at Jolahonja.
While four people, including two women, managed to swim back safely, the others were missing, Superintendent of Police A.K.Sahu told IANS, adding that the chances of finding any survivors alive appears to be remote.
Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) personal, local villagers and volunteers have launched a search operation to locate the missing people, he said.
