Mumbai, May 23 (IANS) Eight people, including three women and a child, were killed and 18 injured when a car rammed into a bus early Friday on the Mumbai-Goa highway, police said. The crash took place in Raigad, around 160 km south of here, and all the deceased were from Mumbai, while the injured were those travelling in the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus, a police official said.
“The accident occurred at around 3 a.m. on the busy Mumbai-Goa highway,” Raigad Superintendent of Police P.R. Digavkar told IANS.
The driver of the Toyota Qualis lost control while overtaking a truck and rammed into the bus coming from the opposite direction, he said.
The deceased have been identified as Amit Manoj Shinde (26), Avdhoot Manoj Shinde (28), Shobha Manoj Shinde(45), Shaini Bhukham (41), Sahil Bhukham (6), Surekha Bhukham and Ravindra Shahini.
The car driver’s body was found mutilated beyond recognition and he was yet to be identified, Digavkar said.
