May 28th, 2011 - 1:45 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, May 28 (IANS) Eight people were killed and 12 injured when a truck-trailer collided with a state transport bus on the Mumbai-Pune expressway late Friday, police said Saturday.
“Eight people, including a woman bus conductor, were killed and 12 injured when a truck-trailer collided with a Mumbai-bound state transport bus late last night near Khopoli,” an official from the Khopoli police station told IANS. Khopoli is 85 km from Mumbai.
Three of those killed have been identified as Bhushan More (20), Surekha Tajale (45) and the woman conductor of the bus, Sadhna Satve (30).
“Identification process of others killed is still on. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination,” the official said.
Residents of Khopoli and adjoining villages blocked traffic on the Mumbai-Pune expressway Saturday to protest frequent accidents. They demanded that no heavy vehicles like truck-trailers or multi-axle vehicles be allowed to ply on the expressway.
