Eight killed in Chhattisgarh van-truck collision
May 11th, 2011 - 10:09 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, May 11 (IANS) At least eight members of a marriage party in Chhattisgarh were killed on the spot while 25 others were injured, several of them critically, after the van they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck Wednesday, police said.
The accident took place in the afternoon at Bharengabhat village, some 30 km from Chhattisgarh capital Raipur.
“It was a head-on collision. The truck rammed into the matador crowded with a marriage party. Eight people were crushed to death while 25 others were injured. The condition of at least 12 of them was very critical,” Dipanshu Kabra, Raipur district police chief, told reporters.
He said majority of the injured were taken to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Hospital here while a few others were accommodated in other hospitals.
