Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), March 20 (IANS) Eight people, including three women, were arrested for selling off an estate, which belonged to two brothers from Kerala, on fabricated documents, police said Friday.
The people were remanded to judicial custody on charges of cheating.
The suspects were members of a gang headed by S. Daniel, 33. They fabricated documents of an estate owned by J.P. Joseph and George. P. Joseph, two siblings from Kerala, and sold it for Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million) and also mortgaged the same property for an equal sum with a private bank, M. Manickaraj, additional district superintendent of police told IANS.
“The suspects were arrested after the real owners learnt of the fraud on their property, which is worth much more,” the ADSP added. Tirunelveli is situated 600 km south of Chennai.
