Eight injured in building collapse in West Bengal

Kolkata, Oct 3 (IANS) Eight people were injured when a building under onstruction collapsed in a West Bengal town, the police said.The accident took Friday evening in North 24 Parganas district’s Baguihati town.

“Some construction work was going on at a building in Baguihati town Friday around 7.30 p.m. Suddenly a portion of the sixth floor collapsed and eight labourers were trapped inside,” officer-in-charge of Baguihati police station Paresh Roy told reporters.

“Police personnel from Baguihati police station and BSF (Border Security Force) officials reached the spot and rescued seven of them,” he said.

“But one labourer is still trapped under the debris. He is alive but is stuck till his waist in the debris. We are trying to rescue him,” Roy added.

Roy added the condition of four of the seven injured labourers, who were admitted at Uma hospital, was critical.
