Eight drown in Maharashtra
December 16th, 2010 - 5:22 pm ICT by IANSHingoli (Maharashtra), Dec 16 (IANS) Eight people, including five children, were drowned when their jeep fell into a canal in Hingoli district of Maharashtra while they were returning home from a pilgrimage, a police official said Thursday.The incident took place late Wednesday night near Kalamnuri village. Six bodies have so far been recovered by police.
“Around 15 people were travelling back to their village, when their jeep fell into a canal after the driver lost control. We have retrieved the bodies of six of the eight people who drowned,” a police official said.
Those who drowned have been identified as Sumitra Chibhade, 29, Rahul Chibhade, 7, Aarti Gaikwad, 20, Kavita Dhanve, 40, Asha Dhanve, 15, and Sagar Bhise, 10.
Police are still searching for bodies of Soni Bhise, 7, and Sumit Chibhade, 3.
