Eight die as truck overturns on hut
December 17th, 2010 - 11:40 am ICT by IANSLucknow, Dec 17 (IANS) Eight members of a family, including children, were killed and four injured when a speeding truck overturned and fell on their hut in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district, police said Friday.The accident took place at midnight in Tikaitnagar area, where the truck laden with rice husk went out of control and fell on the roadside hut, killing seven people on the spot.
A woman later died while being taken to hospital, police inspector Brijesh Tiwari told reporters in Barabanki, some 35 km from Lucknow.
“Those killed in the accident include three women and five children aged between two and eight years. The four injured are being treated in the district hospital and the condition of two is stated to be serious,” he said.
The truck driver, who was going to Madhya Pradesh, escaped after the accident.
“Efforts are on to nab the driver,” said Tiwari.
