Eight dead as vehicle slams into bus in UP
April 21st, 2012 - 6:23 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, April 21 (IANS) Eight people were killed Saturday when a speeding jeep rammed into a state roadways bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, police said.
According to police, another half a dozen people were injured, some of them critically. They have been admitted to the district hospital in Shahjahanpur, 175 km from here.
The bus was going to New Delhi when the jeep, coming from the opposite side, lost control and rammed into it near Jalalabad. The impact of the collision was so severe that the bus passengers were flung several metres away.
Shahjahanpur’s Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Yadav told IANS that the driver of the jeep was also killed in the accident.
He said it seemed that the fault for the accident lay with the jeep driver.
Traffic on the road was affected for some time but restored after police removed the debris and sent the bodies for autopsy.
