ED raids Hasan Ali’s accountant’s premises (Lead)
March 23rd, 2011 - 11:24 pm ICT by IANSPune, March 23 (IANS) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Wednesday conducted searches at the Pune residence and office of the chartered accountant of alleged money launderer and tax evader Hasan Ali Khan, official sources said.
The ED officials, divided in two teams of six each, seized several tax related documents and hard-disks from the premises of Sunil Shinde and also summoned him to the Mumbai ED office Thursday.
Confirming the development Shinde said that the ED officials searched his residence in Sahakar Nagar area of south Pune and also his office in Pune’s extended suburb of Hadapsar.
“The seized documents are all legal and submitted by Khan and his wife for tax purposes,” Shinde said.
“I was in Mumbai to attend to a professional matter related to the income tax tribunal since Tuesday, when the raid started. I had to rush back home,” Shinde told IANS.
Expressing his concern over the search that lasted 10 hours, Shinde said that he is Khan’s accountant only in a professional capacity.
“It is unfair to raid my residence only because I am his chartered accountant,” he said.
He also expressed his concern that no woman police official was present when his residence was searched in his absence.
“My residence was searched in my absence and only my wife and two daughters were present there. It is unlawful to do so,” he said.
Khan is in the custody of the ED till Thursday.
