Earthquake rocks eastern Indonesia

Jakarta, June 26 (Xinhua) An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter Scale jolted the eastern parts of Indonesia Thursday morning, Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualty. The quake occurred at 0044 GMT.

The epicentre was located at 109 km south-west of the Saumlaki town of Maluku province, the agency said.

Indonesia sits on a vulnerable zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire” where two continental plates meet that cause frequent volcanic movements.
