Berlin, Nov 25 (IANS) Second division team Dynamo Dresden will be excluded from the 2012/2013 German Cup due to fan riots in a match against Borussia Dortmund in October, the German Soccer Association sports tribunal (DFB) decided Thursday.

The German Cup match between Dresden and Dortmund saw Dresden fans tossing fireworks onto the pitch to cause match interruptions. A total of 17 people were injured, 15 arrested and a material damage of 150,000 euros resulted from the excesses, Xinhua reported.

“There have never been deadly incidents in our stadiums. If this continues, it’s just a matter of time until they result in fatalities,” DFB sports tribunal chairman Hans E. Lorenz said after the verdict.

The exclusion is nothing new to Dresden as they were banned in 1991 for two years from all European Cup games.

“The decision is a disaster for a club like Dynamo Dresden. I find it absolutely unacceptable that they set an example with us,” Dresden sports director Steffen Menze said.
