DUTA to go ahead with protests Thursday
January 11th, 2012 - 11:37 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANS) Flaying the Delhi University’s registrar’s directive to eschew protests on a working day, the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) said they will go ahead with their agitation Thursday.
The registrar had Tuesday written to DUTA urging them not to strike on a working day as it would lead to severe disruption of the academic and administrative functioning of the varsity and a violation of the standing order of the Delhi High Court
The DUTA, however, Wednesday said the varsity administration had no right to stop them and they would be protesting outside Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh’s office Thursday.
“The administration takes recourse to seemingly legal language in issuing illegal orders to stop teachers from highlighting serious issues affecting the University,” said DUTA secretary S.D. Siddiqui, calling the attitude “rigid and adamant”.
However, the teachers added that their participation in the protest would not hamper the education of the students.
“Whenever teachers would be free from their lectures they will join the dharna. No classes will be missed,” DUTA president Amar Deo Sharma told IANS.
“The protest is being called against the vice chancellor’s autocratic manner, enquiry against principals of Dayal Singh and Ram Lal Anand College, filling of teaching and non-teaching vacancies, releasing pension of retired teachers, speeding up process of promotion and converting CPF (Contributory Provident Fund) to GPF (General Provident Fund),” said a DUTA official.
