DTC bus driver gunned down
October 6th, 2011 - 9:52 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 6 (IANS) Unidentified assailants gunned down a 47-year-old bus driver of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) outside his house here, police said Thursday.
Ajit Singh, after completing his duty, was returning to his home in Baba Hari Dass Nagar in west Delhi late Wednesday night. While he was knocking at the house door, the assailants who were waiting for him, gunned him down and fled, police said.
His elder son, who was about to open the door, heard the gun shots. He opened the door only to find his father lying in a pool of blood.
He called the police who rushed Singh to Rao Tula Ram Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Singh received two bullets — one in the neck and another in the hand.
Police said the attackers were well aware of Singh’s day-to-day activities. “They were waiting for him to come home,” said a senior police.
The family members told police that Singh, who retired from the Indian Army, had a dispute with a man living in the neighbourhood. The man, they alleged, had threatened to kill Singh.
“The case is under investigation,” said an officer.
