New Delhi, April 7 (IANS) A retired army havaldar was arrested Tuesday for gunning down his 29-year-old son in an inebriated state at their home here, police said.
Sheeshram, 62, first fired in the air before pumping a bullet into son Purushottam’s chest at their Adhyapak Nagar house late Monday. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police said that Sheeshram had returned home drunk late Monday and had an argument with his wife over his food.

“When their son tried to pacify him, he abused him too. Sheeshram asked Purshottam to leave. But the son kept pacifying his father, who pulled out his gun and fired in the air,” said a police officer. And the next moment he shot his son dead.

The neighbours called the police, and the accused was arrested Tuesday. The dead man worked at a hardware shop and was the sole earning member of the family.
