New Delhi, June 2 (IANS) In yet another incident of its kind, a drunk driver injured a policeman in Chanakyapuri area here when he was asked to stop his car for checking, police said Tuesday.
Rajbir, carrying out routine checking of vehicles on Panchsheel Marg late Monday, signalled a Maruti Zen driver to stop his car near the barricade as he was driving at a high speed. However, Rajesh, who was behind the wheel, accelerated the car and hit the barricade.

“Rajesh first hit the barricade in order to flee from the spot but lost control over the vehicle and the vigilant policeman immediately ran over to the driver. When the policeman was trying to block his way, the driver deliberately hit him by accelerating his car,” said a policeman.

“The other policemen present on the spot managed to get hold of the driver,” the policeman added.

The constable was rushed to the RML hospital and he was discharged after treatment. The police said a case has been registered against Rajesh who was found to be drunk.
