May 22nd, 2012 - 5:29 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 22 (IANS) Chelsea striker Didier Drogba will make his maiden visit to India next month.
Drogba, who was instrumental in Chelsea’s maiden Champion League triumph last week, is coming to India for the Grand Finale of Pepsi T20 Football scheduled for June 17.
The Ivory Coast footballer will share his knowledge with the winners of the competition.
“To take the excitement around our grassroots initiative, Pepsi T20 Football to the next level, we are proud to bring one of the world’s most exciting footballers Didier Drogba to India. His visit is a further testimony to our ultimate objective of popularising football in the country,” said Homi Battiwalla from PepsiCo India.
T20 Football is a new format for youngsters, which combines the excitement and fun of T20 style of cricket with the speed, thrill and spirit of football.
The matches are being held in a unique metallic cage in major Indian cities of Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow, Ludhiana and Delhi.
A total of eight teams, including one winning team from each city and one wild card entry will compete to emerge as ‘Game Changers’. They will then get the opportunity to be coached by Didier Drogba before they face the Indian cricket players for a game of T20 Football at the Grand Finale.
