Driver killed in police firing in Jharkhand
January 17th, 2012 - 7:14 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Ranchi, Jan 17 (IANS) The driver of a vehicle was killed and his assistant injured when police opened fire on their vehicle in Jharkhand’s Palamau district on Tuesday, according to officials.
On early Tuesday, a Tata Magic vehicle was flagged down to stop for checking by policemen near Sultan Ghati of Palamau district, which is around 160 km from Ranchi, a police official said.
The driver ignored the police signal to stop the vehicle, prompting the policemen to allegedly open fire. The driver died on the spot and his assistant was injured.
The injured person has been brought to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) at Ranchi for treatment.
According to the police official, a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against unidentified policemen based on the statement of the injured assistant.
“Suitable action will be taken based on the investigation report,” the police official told IANS over telephone from Palamau.
