DPS offers to withdraw expulsion notice to Salman Khurshid
January 19th, 2010 - 8:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) The Delhi Public School (DPS) Society Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that it was withdrawing the expulsion notice issued to Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, for conducting “anti-DPS activities”.
Advocate Sunil Mittal, appearing on behalf of the DPS Society, told a division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw that the society was ready to withdraw expulsion notice to Khurshid and would hear him first.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Parag Tripathi, appearing on behalf of Khurshid, agreed to the offer and said he would withdraw his petition that contested the single-judge bench’s earlier refusal to grant Khurshid relief over the society’s expulsion order.
A single judge’s bench last year refused to grant Khurshid - a member of the society since 1984 - any relief, contending he did not avail the opportunity given to him by the DPS Society after the expulsion letter was issued, so the society is not liable for anything.
Khurshid Sep 10 filed a petition against his expulsion. The society alleged he was conducting “anti-DPS” activities when he accused it of irregularities and of indulging in commercialisation of education.
He had charged the society management with collecting money from DPS schools in the name of licence and signing fees, which violates the Delhi Education Act.
“The society was collecting between Rs.500,000 and Rs.1 million from franchisees for using the society’s name and logo and for an agreement to run the schools,” Khurshid then alleged.
