Double wins for Saran, Aditya in National Racing ChampionshipAugust 31st, 2008 - 8:54 pm ICT by IANS
Chennai, Aug 31 (IANS) Local teenagers, Saran Vikram and Aditya Patel, achieved a double each in the fourth round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship, here Saturday.Saran Vikram, who is already leading in the Formula LGB Swift class, consolidated his position with two wins Sunday to put himself within striking distance of the coveted championship title.
For Aditya Patel, it was a sensational comeback to the National championship as he triumphed in both races of the Formula Rolon category after missing a couple of rounds due to his commitments in the Formula BMW Pacific series.
Saran Vikram was in good form as he continued his winning spree. Starting on pole, the 18-year old Saran held on to the lead till the finish ahead of Delhi’s Karthik Shankar of Team TVS Girling and Sudanand Rajan of Team WSRF with Leela.
The grid was reversed for the second race with Saran starting fourth on the grid with Rayomand Banajee of Team WSRF with Leela on pole. But that did not deter Saran who notched his second win of the day as picked all the front runners with ease, pushing S Narendran of Team TVS Girling to second place and Rayomand had to settle for the third spot.
The premium category of the championship saw last year’s champion Aditya Patel of Team Speed NK Racing making a comeback midway into the championship. He took no time in displaying his skills to notch up an emphatic win in the first race, defeating Team Red Rooster pair of Gaurav Dalal and Akhil Khushlani.
In the second race, Aditya held off Gaurav Dalal in a riveting duel to complete a fine double. Gaurav finished second and Karthik Shankar of Team Rams Racing third.
Earlier, Sarosh Hataria of Team Red Rooster Racing emerged winner in Race 1 of Round 3, which was held Sunday after wet weather had forced the postponement of the races in this class at Coimbatore last month.
Starting third on the grid, Sarosh drove well to move past team-mates Akhil Khushlani and pole setter Gaurav Dalal for a good win. The second race of Round 3 will be run along with Round 5 later in the year.
