Double delight for Indian winner of Qatar raffle drawJuly 24th, 2008 - 4:47 pm ICT by IANS
Dubai, July 24 (IANS) It was double delight for Roopesh Kumar Kidavunil when he came to know that he was the winner of Qatar Duty Free’s $1-million raffle even as he was visiting India to be with his wife and their first child. The 31-year-old Indian, who has been working for Qatar Petroleum for the last three years, had bought the raffle ticket on way to his home in Kerala to be with his wife who had given birth to their first son four months back.
“This has really taken us by surprise,” reports quoted Kidavunil as saying after he received the news of the win following the draw held at Doha International Airport.
“What a great prize and a double celebration for my baby son and the family,” he said.
Asked what he would do with the money, he said first he would use the money to support his family and then use the rest on “good things”.
“Congratulations to Kidavunil and his wife - and what a great birthday gift for his newborn son,” vice-president of Qatar Duty Free Krishna Kumari said.
Kidavunil is the third US dollar millionaire of the raffle held by Qatar Duty Free, a subsidiary of Qatar Airways.
The raffle was launched in May 2006 giving passengers the opportunity to win the bumper prize as each draw is held after 5,000 tickets are sold.
Departing and transiting passengers at Doha International Airport can purchase the tickets, each priced at 950 Qatari riyals ($261).
