Domestic help in Delhi held for robberyMarch 17th, 2008 - 11:10 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) The Delhi Police have nabbed a domestic help and his two accomplices for robbing jewellery worth Rs.4.5 million and nearly Rs.300,000 in cash from a house in Delhi Jan 26 this year. “We have arrested three people, including the servant, from Karol Bagh area in central Delhi and have also recovered the (part of) stolen diamond and gold jewellery and cash,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhry told IANS Monday.
The three were identified as Arun Choupal, Raj Kumar and Som Nath.
The incident occurred when Murari Lal, resident of Paschim Vihar in west Delhi, went to attend a function with his family.
Arun, who was employed by the family about two months earlier, allegedly ran away with the jewellery and cash kept in the house.
“We have been able to recover stolen jewellery worth Rs.4 million and Rs.97,000 in cash,” Chaudhry said.
“The family had not verified the identity of Arun, making the task of arresting him difficult. Except Arun’s name and that he hailed from Bihar, the family could not provide any clue about him,” he added.
Surveillance of Arun’s mobile phone and scanning of hundreds of dossiers helped in nailing Arun and his associates. Arun was also found to be involved in a robbery case in northwest Delhi in 2004.
