Documents relating to purchases for National Games missing
March 17th, 2011 - 2:21 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, March 17 (IANS) Many important files and documents relating to purchase of sports goods for the 34th National Games were found missing during raids conducted by the Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau, officials said Thursday.
“Many important documents and files related to purchases were missing during raids. Some pages have also been removed from the files,” an official of the Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau told IANS.
The Vigilance Bureau conducted raids at the office of National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) in Ranchi as well as the houses of Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) general secretary S.M. Hashmi and treasurer Madhukant Pathak on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Vigilance Bureau Inspector General of Police M.V. Rao said investigations were on. He hinted at the possibility of summoning the NGOC officials for questioning. He said a detailed report of the raids would be made available after assessing the various documents seized during the two-day raids.
The Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau had last year lodged an FIR against JOA president R.K. Aanand, Pathak, Hasmi and others.
There are allegations that the equipment used in the February National Games were purchased at rates higher than the market price, causing losses to the state exchequer.
It is alleged that the whistles used in the Games were purchased at Rs.450 each while the market price was Rs.90 only.
