Doctors’ strike in Chhattisgarh hospital continuesMarch 22nd, 2008 - 10:14 pm ICT by admin
Raipur, March 22 (IANS) A strike by nearly 200 doctors of Chhattisgarh’s largest hospital continued for the fifth day causing much trouble to the patients here Saturday even as the agitators rejected the government’s call to end the protest and join their duties. The Medical Teachers Association of Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital began their strike March 18 over long overdue monetary demands.
The doctors have been refusing to attend even emergency cases.
The association said it was forced to go on strike because the government had offered to pay more than triple their salary to new recruits at a medical college coming up at Jagdalpur in the state’s southern Bastar district.
Besides a salary hike, the doctors are seeking residential facilities and regular employment to those appointed on contract.
