Doctor attempts suicide at Delhi hospital
November 23rd, 2011 - 7:21 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) A resident doctor at central Delhi’s Lady Hardinge Medical College Wednesday attempted suicide by jumping from the terrace of a building in the complex, police said.
Naseer, a junior resident doctor with the gynaecology department, has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where his condition has been described as critical but stable.
“He has severe head injuries and fractures in the chest and other injuries too. We are monitoring his condition,” said a doctor at AIIMS.
The incident occurred at around 7.15 a.m., police said.
“He was found lying in a pool of blood next to the house surgeon building,” said a police officer. A passer-by said he jumped from the terrace of the building.
Police is trying to find out the reason behind the attempted suicide. Though rumours were gaining ground within the hospital complex that he attempted suicide because he was not allowed to go on leave, hospital authorities said this was untrue and they had not received any leave application from him.
