Lucknow, May 19 (IANS) A doctor has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh on charges of allegedly arranging proxy candidates for students appearing in medical entrance tests. Arvind Kumar Maurya, arrested here from the Charbagh railway station, allegedly supplied the “impersonators” for medical tests in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, the police said.

“Identity cards of several students of various medical colleges were recovered from Maurya,” Mahanagar Circle police officer Rahul Srivastava said.

The police said Maurya had named several people who allegedly assisted him in the racket. A New Delhi-based doctor was one of them.

Maurya’s name cropped up during the interrogation of a youth arrested last week for appearing in the Uttar Pradesh Combined Pre-Medical Examinations.
