Bhopal, April 5 (IANS) Haj pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh will have a direct flight from Indore to Jeddah from the next Haj season, it was announced Saturday. The decision to connect the city with Jeddah in Saudi Arabia was taken at the All India Haj Conference organised by the Haj Committee of India at New Delhi recently, an official said.
Madhya Pradesh Haj Committee Secretary Nusrat Mehandi, who attended the meeting, said Haj pilgrims from the state would get to fly from Indore via Mumbai.
“Hajis departing from Indore would no longer be required to undertake the journey in two stages which would save them about Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000,” she said.
The applications for Haj pilgrimage would be accepted from May 1 and flight operations would begin from Dec 13.
The conference was presided over by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Among others who attended the conference were Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed, the Consul General of India at Jeddah, Ausaf Saeed, and Chairperson of the Central Haj Committee Iqbal Ahmad Saradagi.
