Dikshit issues warning to Games contractors
July 26th, 2010 - 10:46 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 26 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday warned that contractors who do sub-standard work or fail to meet the Aug 31 deadline to complete Commonwealth Games projects would be blacklisted and penalised.
Three days after meeting public works department engineers, Dikshit told the contractors that the Barapullah Nallah elevated road, which will connect the Games Village in east Delhi with the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, and the Ring Road Bypass should be completed soon as their timely completion remains a concern.
“Inform me or the cabinet members of whatever help you need and whatever problems you face. We will try to solve the matter. Otherwise, any unpreparedness will dent the city’s image,” she told them.
Aug 31 has been set as the deadline for completing Games-related projects, while Aug 10 is the time for clearing roads of the debris.
Dikshit later told reporters that the deadline remains the same and only the finishing work will be done in September.
She said the state government has also received complaints of low quality work from some parts of the capital, adding that another meeting with the contractors will be held Aug 10 to review the progress.
The chief minister also exhorted the contractors to personally visit the sites and said that street lighting, street-scaping, signage and greening work should be of high quality.
It was decided to complete the CWG lane marking on about 106 km of designated roads within 15 days.
