Did not summon UP engineer in health scam: CBI
January 23rd, 2012 - 9:27 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday said it did not examine or summon the 55-year-old engineer who shot himself dead fearing arrest in the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh.
“The premises of Sunil Kumar were searched by CBI Jan 4 along with other accused and suspects in the case. He was neither yet examined nor was called or summoned for questioning,” a statement issued by the agency said.
Sunil Kumar Verma, engaged in construction work under the NHRM, shot himself dead in Lucknow Monday.
The CBI said that Verma was one of the accused in an NRHM related case registered by the CBI. The case relates to alleged irregularities in upgrade of 134 district hospitals by the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam.
In his suicide note, Verma wrote that he was innocent and the CBI was trying to frame him in the scam.
