Dhumal for quake drill in schools
December 7th, 2011 - 8:44 pm ICT by IANSShimla, Dec 7 (IANS) With the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh being prone to earthquakes and floods, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal Wednesday directed school and hospital authorities in the state to hold quarterly mock drills on disaster preparedness.
Presiding over the first meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority here, Dhumal said mock drills on emergency preparedness and response would be carried in all educational and health institutions, besides important establishments once in three months.
“Efforts would be made to re-design existing school buildings on the pattern of hill architecture so as to make them earthquake resistant and eco-friendly,” an official statement quoting Dhumal said.
