Dey murder: Vora’s judicial custody extended till Feb 10 (Lead)
January 30th, 2012 - 8:53 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Jan 30 (IANS) A Mumbai special court Monday extended till Feb 10 the judicial custody of woman scribe Jigna Vora, an accused in the 2011 journalist J. Dey murder case, a lawyer said.
Dey, Mid-day newspaper’s editor (special investigations), was gunned down June 11, 2011 near his residence in Powai, central Mumbai, by motorcycle-borne assailants.
“Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Special Judge S.M. Modak extended her judicial custody,” Vora’s lawyer Jayesh Vithlani told IANS.
Vora, who earlier worked under Dey at Mid-day and was now with the Asian Age daily here, was arrested Nov 25, 2011.
According to police, Vora allegedly provided Dey’s mobile number and his exact location to absconding mafia don Chhota Rajan.
“The judicial custody of the other 10 accused was extended till Feb 14,” said Special Public Prosecutor Raja Thakre.
The court earlier rejected the bail plea of two accused Anil Waghmode and Deepak Sisodia. They applied for bail on medical grounds.
