Depression over Bay of Bengal, fishermen alerted
October 19th, 2011 - 7:36 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Oct 19 (IANS) Orissa fishermen were Wednesday alerted against venturing out into the sea as a well-marked low pressure area, formed over the Bay Bengal a day ago, intensified into a deep depression, an official here said.
The deep depression has centred over the northern part of Bay of Bengal, an official of the meteorological centre told IANS.
The system is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm and move north-eastwards and cross Bangladesh coast by Wednesday night, he said.
Paradip and Gopalpur port were asked to hoist storm warning signal number one, he said.
Strong and gusty surface winds at 40-50 kmph from north-westerly direction may prevail along and off the state coast, he said adding, some places in the state may also witness rain during the next 24 hours.
