The blaze broke out in the depot in the Sitapura industrial area, about 20 km from the city centre, at 7.15 p.m. Thursday evening. Officials said nine people could have been killed and nearly 150 injured.
The committee will be headed by Mahesh Lal, the CEO of Hindustan Petroleum, and Rajasthan government officials. The report must be submitted in six weeks to the union petroleum ministry, Deora said.
In addition to the state government’s compensation — Rs.2 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs.1 lakh for the seriously injured — Deora has announced Rs.10 lakh for those killed and Rs.2 lakh for those injured. Those who sustained minor injuries will get Rs.1 lakh in addition to the state government’s compensation of Rs.50,000.
As a precautionary measure, the Indian railways has diverted a couple of trains running on the Jaipur-Sawai Madhopur sector.
According to trade estimates, over Rs.500 crore worth of damage has been incurred because of the fire.
