Dentist beats seven-year-old for refusing treatment

Kolkata, Feb 5 (IANS) A dentist in a West Bengal town allegedly slapped a seven-year-old boy repeatedly after he refused to get a tooth pulled out, the police said Thursday.Diganta Sarkar went with his grandmother to get a tooth extracted at R.R. Ahmed Dental College at Liluah town under Muchipara police station in Howrah district Thursday morning.

“Sarkar’s family has lodged an FIR (police complaint) saying that the dentist, Prasanta Pal, slapped him repeatedly Thursday after he tried to prevent him from extracting a tooth. We are looking into the matter,” an official at Muchipara police station said.

Sarkar said Pal was very rude to him from the moment he entered the chamber.

“The doctor pushed the anaesthetic injection very roughly. When I screamed, he scolded me. I was scared and prevented him from extracting the tooth. I asked him to let me go to my grandmother, who was waiting outside.”

“On hearing this, Pal started slapping me continuously till my grandmother came to my rescue hearing my cries,” Sarkar said.

However, the principal of the dental college, Dibyendu Majumder, said he has not received any complaints from the patient or his guardians.

“The patient party has not filed any complaints with us so far. We will take proper action only after we receive their statement,” Majumder said.
