Delhi’s Semwal extends lead at Inter-state Golf

Coimbatore, June 15 (IANS) Delhi’s Siddharth Semwal extended his lead in both the individual and team competitions of the Inter-State Amateur Golf Championship at Coimbatore Golf Club here Wednesday.

Semwal shot 74 to go with his first day 73 for a total of 147, that put him three clear of Abhijit Chadha (76) who moved up to second place at 150, the same as Khalin Joshi of Bangalore who hit three over on the first day and again repeated the same score of 75.

Vashista Pawar of Coimbatore, making his debut on the Amateur Tour, carded four-over for a total score of 152. Chandigarh’s Angad Cheema brought home the day’s best of 71 for the total of 154 - he had a 83 on first day - and he was lying in the fifth place.

Partnering 20-year-old Semwal was Honey Baisoya (78) and together the Delhi B team had 301 for a nine-shot lead over Chandigarh duo H.S. Kang (81) and Abhijit Chadha (76) who had 310 for the second place.

Uttar Pradesh B with Jasjeet Singh (75) and Imamul Haque (79) were lying third at 312.

Semwal started badly with a bogey on second, third and a double bogey on fourth, but birdies on 5th, 6th and 18th holes saved the day for him. He missed an eagle on fifth and another birdie from three feet on seventh.

Sixtynine players have made the cut and will figure for the final two rounds and of them 38 will be playing for the individual honours.
