Delhi Traffic Police launches web portal

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IANS) Delhi Traffic Police Monday launched a website for the convenience of commuters in the national capital to facilitate traffic movement during the Commonwealth Games.
The traffic police in the past used a similar technology — social networking to connect with people and work together in ensuring greater safety on Delhi’s roads. It launched its Facebook account in May 2010, which now has around 33,000 followers.
“It has been the endeavour of the Delhi Traffic Police to use technology to the utmost potential. We have now created this dynamic portal which will display real time updates of traffic restrictions, blockades,” Ajay Chadha, special commissioner (traffic) told reporters.
The portal, www.delhitrafficpolice.nic.in, carries a link as “Route Advisory for CWG-2010″. Apart from displaying restrictions, the portal will also suggest alternative routes to the users.
“This portal will be quite helpful in planning one’s route by giving real time updates. A commuter can avoid inconvenience during functions, sports matches, processions, parades, waterlogging, restrictions, and traffic jams,” Chadha added.
The website will run best on Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, and requires a bandwidth of one Mbps to run smoothly.
