New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Came out all bundled up in woollens, but ended up feeling quite warm this morning? Don’t be surprised. Delhi witnessed a good eight degree rise in the minimum temperature Saturday, but it is expected to fall after light showers in the day.According to officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rise in the minimum temperature is because of the cloud cover - the reason why the day looks bleak, but is not really that cold.

The minimum temperature recorded Saturday morning was 16.2 degrees Celsius, when it should normally be around eight at this time of the year.

“For the last two days Delhi has had a thick cloud cover because of the western disturbances over Jammu and Kashmir. This has caused the heat to be trapped and thus the rise in the minimum temperature,” an IMD official told IANS.

“However, we are expecting a light rainfall over the capital today. This will clear the clouds, causing the temperatures to dip,” the official added.

Said Kavya Jain, a Delhi University student: “When I looked out of the window this morning, it was so foggy that I could hardly see the house opposite ours. Thinking that it will be very cold, I decided to wear two sweaters to shield myself, but I’m now feeling very warm.

“I will actually be glad if it rains. Although my friends are happy with the weather, I wish it were a little more cold. It doesn’t quite feel like Delhi winter!” she said.
