Delhi to host exhibition of HIV+ children’s pictures
November 23rd, 2010 - 1:10 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) In an attempt to highlight the everyday trials of HIV positive children, especially orphans, a collection of photographs will be exhibited at the British Council here Nov 30 on.
According to NGO ActionAid, which will put up the exhibition, the photographs by Srikanth Kolari expose the vulnerability of the children and the denial of rights that they face each day.
“HIV positive parents often die in their prime, leaving their children orphaned who then face the stigma and discrimination more vicious than the disease,” an ActionAid official said.
“Media ethics demand that representation of (HIV) positive children should not be done in any way that reveals their identity. This exhibition uses that challenge to tell the children’s stories in a creative manner without compromising on the important message,” the official added.
India is home to the second largest number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world.
The exhibition, titled ‘Suffering Silence: Untold Story of Orphan HIV positive children’, will be on till Dec 6. It is being held to mark World AIDS Day on Dec 1.
