July 18th, 2010 - 8:17 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 18 (IANS) A major fire that broke out in a shoe showroom in the central business district Sunday morning was brought under control by fire fighters after over six hours, an official said. There were no casualties.
The fire broke out at around 11.15 a.m. in the Balujas showroom in Connaught Place. Till 6 p.m., 90 percent of the flames were brought under control, the official said.
“Six fire tenders were sent at the spot but as the situation worsened, 10 more fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames,” the official said.
He said fire fighters faced problems in dousing the flames due to congestion near the shop.
The damage could not be ascertained yet. The cause of the fire was also not known. “We cannot say right now whether the fire was caused due to an electrical short-circuit or any other reason,” the official said.
