June 15th, 2011 - 1:04 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 14 (IANS) Delhi Police Tuesday launched a programme on community policing in the southern parts of the city, roping in school children as part of an awareness campaign.
“The programme has youth as its focal point to creatively tap their skills to spread the message of safety and security in our society,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.
Students of Malviya Public School and other schools based in the area participated.
“They were sensitized about safety equipment that can be used at home, the need for alertness and on helping senior citizens,” said Sharma.
“We are also trying to imbibe in children the value and importance of elders at home and are trying to rekindle the bonds of affection and understanding between the generation of yesterday and the generation of tomorrow,” said Sharma.
The police also educated them on how to keep their vehicles safe and on traffic rules and regulations.
The children joined the servant and tenant verification camps at Khirki and Savitri Nagar area.
“A total of 118 verification forms for tenants and servants were filled by children themselves,” said Sharma.
He added that the children were also educated about the Eyes and Ears scheme of Delhi Police.
