Delhi safe, but avoid late nights: Police chief (Lead)
July 9th, 2011 - 9:28 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 9 (IANS) Delhi is as safe as any other city but to avoid any untoward incident one must avoid venturing out late at night, Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said Saturday.
“The national capital is a safe city and those who think otherwise have a wrong perception,” Gupta said at an event organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Citing example of his daughter, who stays in London and was a victim of a chain snatching attempt, Gupta said people living in metropolitan cities should always remain alert.
“Incidents like the Dhaula Kuan rape case and the murder of Radhika Tanwar could have been easily avoided with some alertness and care,” he added.
Delhi University student Tanwar, 20, was shot dead March 8 outside her college in south Delhi by her stalker Ram Singh alias Vijay.
In Dhaula Kuan, a 30-year-old BPO employee was abducted by five men and gangraped in a vehicle Nov 23.
