New Delhi, June 19 (IANS) To ensure the safety of senior citizens in the national capital, plans are afoot to make it compulsory for servants to get themselves registered, Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said Friday.
“We have made several requests to people get their servants registered, but the servant verification still stands at around 64 percent in Delhi. I am now planning to make it mandatory under the Criminal Procedure Code for servants to get themselves registered,” said Dadwal.

“Why should the onus for getting servants registered be only with the masters?” he asked while speaking at the end of a fortnightly review meeting of the law and order situation in the capital.

The police chief said many people were not cooperating with the police in their drive to get servants verified.

Emphasizing that the safety of senior citizens is a matter of concern for Delhi Police, Dadwal said: “We will work for the safety of senior citizens. We request them to get their servants verified soon. We will also visit them and convince them to take some basic steps to make their home more secure.”

“We will ask senior citizens to install safety devices like peep holes in doors, safety chains, steel grills and other such basic steps. We will take this (exercise) till the end, till all servants are verified, and this will help instil a sense of security among the elderly. We want people to realise that such basic measures can help pre-empt crimes against them,” he said.
