New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday issued a notice to Delhi Police on Nitish Katara murder convict Vikas Yadav’s plea for three-month interim bail.

Vikas is serving life imprisonment at high-security Tihar Jail here along with his cousin Vishal for killing Nitish Katara in February 2002.

A division bench headed by Justice B.D. Ahmed issued the notice to Delhi Police, seeking their reply on Vikas’s plea by April 7.

Vikas Yadav, son of Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav, approached the bench Thursday for an interim bail for three months to attend his brother’s marriage.

Vikas, in his application, said his younger brother Kunal’s marriage is fixed for April 29 and the rituals would start April 14 when the engagement ceremony is scheduled.

He also said that he would like to meet his grandfather.

Earlier, in August 2009, the bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice P.K. Bhasin had dismissed his bail plea, saying: “Although Vikas is in custody for seven years and Vishal for over four years, the length of their incarceration cannot be a ground by itself for granting bail.”

Vikas and Vishal had kidnapped Nitish Katara, an MBA graduate and an Indian Administrative Service officer’s son, on the night of Feb 16, 2002, from a marriage party in Ghaziabad and killed him. Vikas was opposed to his sister Bharti’s intimacy with Nitish.

In June 2008, Vikas and Vishal Yadav were convicted for the killing and sentenced to life imprisonment.
