Delhi Police hit by two suicides (Lead)

New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) Delhi Police were Monday hit by suicides by their two personnel - an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a constable.
ASI Khajan Singh, 53, hanged himself to death at his home in Harsh Vihar area in northwest Delhi, the police said Monday.

“Khajan Singh, who was posted at the Gokulpuri police station, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in Harsh Vihar area Monday afternoon,” a police officer said.

The police official’s body was discovered by his son who went to his room to serve him tea. Singh was on leave for the last few weeks. “He is survived by four sons and four daughters, all of whom are independent and married,” the officer added.

The police said they are investigating the case and the reason behind the suicide is not established as yet.

In the other incident, Kailash Chand, 40-year-old constable, shot himself dead at a police station.

Chand shot himself in the head inside the toilet around 5 a.m. at the Naraina police station, where he had been posted for a year, a police official said.

The constable lived with his family in Najafgarh area. “No suicide note has been found and the exact reason for his suicide is not established yet,” the officer said.
