Delhi Police ex-official, two men held for murder

New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) A retired Delhi Police official and two other people have been arrested from north Delhi for the murder of a 22-year-old man, police said Sunday.

One of the accused, Surender, 27, an alleged contract killer, was arrested from Kanjhawala area Friday. Two other accused Vedprakash, 52, retired Delhi police official, and Sandeep Kumar, 40, a property dealer, were arrested from the same area earlier Sep 8, a police official said.

According to a police official, two co-accused Rakesh and Naveen, friends of Surender, are untraced and on ten run, the official said.

The accused were involved in the killing of Arun Kumar, 22, in Kanjhawala area Sep 5. The assailants, hired by Vedprakash, pumped six bullets into him.

Police said Vedprakash’s son was involved in a murder and Arun’s cousin was a witness in that case. Vedprakash wanted the witness to withdraw his testimony but Arun was against it.

Vedprakash and Sandeep then decided to kill Arun and contacted Surender, who was in a jail in Haryana.

“Surender contacted Naveen and Rakesh to murder Arun. Vedprakash and Sandeep also paid Rs.5 lakh to the contract killer,” said the police official.
