Delhi police chief admits there is corruption in force
July 9th, 2011 - 8:07 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 9 (IANS) If a police official is unwilling to register your first information report (FIR), just send an e-mail complaint to a senior official to get the problem addressed, Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said, admitting there was corruption in the force.
“I won’t say that there is no corruption in the department,” he added at an event here.
“If your FIR is not registered, send your complaint on e-mail to your DCP (deputy commissioner of police),” he said at an event organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organisation.
According to Gupta, FIRs on crimes like murders and burglaries were registered without much problem but when it came to snatchings either the victim or her family hesitate to lodge a complaint or the police discourage them.
“Crime registration is a major problem in the city… there are some officers who tend to discourage people from getting an FIR registered but I can assure you that this would soon be addressed,” Gupta said.
