Delhi municipal councillor’s kin attacked

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) The brother and nephew of a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillor were attacked outside their home by around a dozen men armed with knives and sticks, police said Tuesday. Three people have been arrested.

North West Delhi’s Burari councillor Gulab Singh Rathaur was present at home Monday night when he heard commotion outside.

Rushing out, he saw the group beating his brother Sunil Singh Rathaur, nephew Awadhesh Singh Rathaur and driver Sanjay.

“I immediately called the police and they arrested five people on the spot, while the rest fled. The police later released the five as well,” Rathaur told IANS.

He said the attackers could be linked to the drug mafia as he was taking strict action against them.

The injured were rushed to hospital, where Awadhesh’s condition is said to be critical.

A police officer said three people have been nabbed and a case has been registered.
