Delhi Metro to plant 10,000 saplings
July 22nd, 2011 - 8:33 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 22 (IANS) Delhi Metro will plant 10,000 saplings over three weeks, beginning Saturday, and distribute free saplings to passengers at 52 Metro stations across the city as part of its greenery campaign.
The campaign was a part of the bigger ‘Till a Million Tree’ plantation drive, in which all government agencies are participating in a bid to plant a million trees in the city, the Delhi Metro said.
“A total of 10,000 saplings will be planted during the campaign from July 23 to Aug 15, 2011, near various Metro stations,” a statement said.
The main varieties of trees and shrubs being planted are Amaltas, Gulmohar, Neem, Sheesam, Bottle brush, Calendra Kaner and Chandni.
