Delhi Metro gets first car from Bombardier (Lead)

New Delhi, Feb 26 (IANS) Bombardier Transportation, a unit of Germany-based train maker Bombardier Inc, said the first of the 424 Movia cars ordered by Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) has arrived here Thursday on an Antonov freight aircraft.
“The first Movia train-set will commence track tests in March while the service introduction is scheduled for the second week in June,” Bombardier Transportation India president and managing director Rajeev Jyoti said.

“The first 36 vehicles for DMRC will be built in Goerlitz, Germany and the following 388 cars in Savli, India, the latest modern railway vehicle manufacturing facility of the company,” Jyoti added.

Jyoti said that in June this year two trains will be assembled in Savli facility.

Added Rambaud-Measson, president of passenger division, Bombardier: “Of the total 424 cars, 380 coaches will be delivered before the Commonwealth Games and the rest 84 coaches will be operational before mid-2011.”

He has added that the company expects to get orders for 100 more metro coaches from DMRC. “The company has orders for 424 Delhi Metro cars valued at $727 million. However, we are expecting orders for another 100,” Measson said.

The operational speed of these metro coaches will be 80 km per hour, while the design speed would be kept at 90 km per hour.
