Delhi man given life term for killing neighbour
April 12th, 2011 - 5:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 12 (IANS) A Delhi court has awarded life imprisonment to a man who killed his neighbour due to personal enmity in west Delhi in 2004.
Additional Session Judge (ASJ) Kaveri Baweja convicted Jitender Singh for murder Friday and said: “I am of the view that this case cannot be termed as a rarest of rare case and having regard to the entire facts and circumstances of the case, the convict is hereby sentenced to imprisonment for life.”
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 on Jitender.
Jitender killed his neighbour Rizwan April 9, 2004. The victim lived in a rented accommodation on the second floor of a building in Prem Nagar, in which Jitender lived as a tenant on the ground floor.
“Police reached the spot and found blood stains on the stairs of the house. No eyewitness was available. It was found that the injured had been taken by a police van to hospital, where the doctors declared him dead,” said the prosecution.
The case was registered on the complaint of Durgesh Prasad, Jitender’s former employer and building owner who lived on the third floor.
He said Jitender had some enmity with Rizwan and on the day of the incident he heard Rizwan shout “Uncle mujhe bachhao, Jitender ne mujhe chhura maar diya” (Help me uncle, Jitender has stabbed me).
Durgesh said he went towards Rizwan’s room where he found him bleeding profusely. He said Jitender was dragging Rizwan out of the room, saying he would not let him stay alive.
The prosecution examined as many as 25 witnesses.
The court rejected Jitender’s plea that he had been implicated. “I find it difficult to believe that merely in order to get his house evicted, the complainant would falsely implicate the accused in this case,” the judge said.
